Routine (for Illustration Friday)

This is not yet another self-portrait...though my friend when seeing it said "strange how you see yourself"...well. It's an image that came to me when I though about Routine...anyone"s routine? I'd be interested:)

An Interview with My Life

is the name of my self-portrait.
I like to explore "accidental" choices in these days. A week ago, I grabbed some old issues of Southern Reviews from the library that would otherwise be discarded, flipped trough pages and cut a few sentences and expressions that caught my eye and stored them in a paper bag. This morning I could no more resist to try to draw my self-portrait from a photograph. And when I finished it, it still looked very unfinished. Then I remembered my cut-outs. I emptied the bag on the table and in a while it was all clear...
This is me.

This is what keeps me from drawing...

Exactly. I grew so fond of playing and improvasing on my Gloria, that when I want to sit myself at the table to draw, I must force myself to do so. And no images come to mind. So I thought I'll draw her, my favourite culprit.

Illustration Friday - Forgotten

This is my first contribution to the Flickr group Illustration Friday. The theme is forgotten...and the first thing that came to my mind was women (dusty, leaning at empty tables, behind window panes), closely followed by friendships (I won't go into much depth here). So, this is it:

Trapped by the Gothic

I recently fell in love with Pj Harvey's latest album White Chalk. The music is haunting, sad and beautiful (read: strongly recommended). The songs creep up from the past, and creeped into my head so quickly, I had to draw her image. She does not look much like PJ but still the atmosphere is present...maybe it only needs a little bit more of dear darkness:)
I'm also adding the skiny girl image photoshoped in color:

Doll Sketches

Browsing through photoes at Flickr I found out Roshekie who makes these beautiful dolls... not pretty pretty at all but very soulful, each of them with a character of her own. I was immediately inspired and so I did the first sketch...I wanted to draw a girl who is not pretty, yet soulful. Well, the result is guite disturbing (am not sure whether she's a girl at all) but like her anyway.

I couldn't sleep so I started another one but this time I slipped to my pretty pretty style of drawing girls...however, she's quite timid pretty at least...so I like her as well.
